Sometimes video game partnerships rock and sometimes they just don't. In the same week as Atari announced struggles with their Dragon Ball Z license, Epic Games and Silicon Knights are battling it out in the courts over Epic's Unreal Engine 3 game engine.

It was last July that Silicon Knights originally sued Epic for failing to meet its end of the agreement and Epic countered with a countersuit and claims that Silicon Knights was attempting to re-use the Unreal Engine 3 in an unannounced game without paying the necessary royalties.

This week the judge denied dismissal of the original suit but offered no explanation.

The case is expected to last quite a while since fact discovery is set for June 2, 2008, with expert discovery as late as the end of August, and no trial date has been set.

Hopefully all this mess won't delay the creation of Too Human or Silicon Knights' announced PlayStation 3 game that is under construction in a partnership with Sega. It's apparently a single-player game with a unique camera system.
